Students from our Minnesota colleges and universities are invited to attend and participate in a relevant weekend of concert performances and interest sessions that will further engage and enlighten their preparation and anticipation of teaching in the vocal music classroom.  Students are invited to attend any scheduled session, but three Friday morning sessions will be geared especially for you as featured below!

Following these sessions, you will be invited to attend a free pizza luncheon sponsored by the F. Melius Christiansen Endowment Fund Committee.  Learn how you can receive scholarships to attend the 2022 ACDA Midwestern Regional Conference in Chicago, and the 2022 Summer Dialogue.

Session One

Zack Carlson

Buffalo High School

Zack Carlson is the Vocal Music Director at Buffalo High School in Buffalo, MN where he leads two 9th Grade Choirs, a mixed Varsity Choir, Concert Choir, Varsity Singers, Treble Singers, and BHS Singers. He directs annual musicals, teaches Unified Music, and co-teaches Classical Music History and AP Music Theory. Buffalo High School Concert Choir was selected to perform at the Minnesota Music Educators Midwinter Clinic in February 2020 and enjoys a busy collaborative schedule with high school, collegiate, and professional choirs across the region.

In his role as Director of Music at Valley of Peace Lutheran Church in Golden Valley, he oversees all aspects of Music Ministry and directs the children’s choir, handbell choir, adult choir, and chamber ensemble.  As a professional singer, Carlson has performed with The Singers-Minnesota Choral Artists, the National Lutheran Choir, iMPLS, PopUp Choir, and Twin Ports Choral Project. He has presented sessions at state and regional ACDA conferences in 2020 and co-facilitated professional development at Buffalo High School. Passionate about furthering his education, Carlson has garnered valuable experience studying conducting with leading choral directors in Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He completed a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Music Education at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and earned a Master of Music Education at Michigan State University.
